A lovely little wedding from Cragwood hotel in the Lakes, sent in by the amazing Hannah Hall Photography. Megan and Natalie are gorgeous, and their day is full of personality and love. The little details are perfect: the wedding rings and stationery are understated and elegant. And the location blows me away. What a stunning spot to get wed, on the shores of lake Windermere. Keep reading for heartfelt supplier reviews from the happy couple – not least for Lake District photographer Hannah Hall, who I’m delighted to say is a member of English Wedding.

Wedding photographer review

We were recommended Hannah by about 3 different lake district photographers. We are so happy that we found Hannah. Seeing Hannah’s previous work cemented the fact that we wanted her to shoot our special day. Hannah’s photographs are so natural and capture exactly what happens. Hannah’s communication throughout the lead up to the wedding and after the wedding, was fantastic. We realised that we had a lot in common about how we wanted to do our wedding and how our back stories were quite similar, it felt like we were meant to have Hannah as our photographer. On the day, we couldn’t have asked for a better person to join our celebration, Hannah was not only a photographer she became one of the wedding party, helping Meg get ready and Nat pin her buttonhole! To rallying the troops for the confetti! When we spent time alone for our bride and bride photos in the woods and at the lake, Hannah wasn’t phased by the fact that we were both awkward as, posing!

Your best wedding moment or memory

Everything!! Seeing Meg walk in with the boys will forever be in Nat’s memory. Our eldest boy handing over the rings. Seeing everyone who was there having a lovely time and all being together, which never gets to happen due to everyone living in different parts of the country.

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

We knew we wanted an intimate, relaxed wedding. In the end we had 15 people there including us. It was perfect! 2 days with the people who mean the most to us making precious memories

Cragwood country house hotel
Cragwood was the first venue we visited. Having a tour around we fell in love straight away. Everything was perfect, the old building, the rooms, the grounds! Being so close to the lake and seeing all the hills knowing how beautiful it would look in it’s autumnal colours. The staff were phenomenal.

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

Nat knew she wouldn’t wear a dress, it’s not her style, she wouldn’t feel comfortable or be true to herself! The first outfit Nat chose was a relaxed smart look with braces but after months of deciding that was the outfit she had a change of heart and wanted to feel even smarter! Meg on the other hand changed outfits, a million (at least 7) times!! Eventually staying with the choice she wore. In Nat’s opinion Meg blew her away with how beautiful she looked, the dress was perfect.

First dance song? Playlist recommendations?

We had a party a few days after our wedding and that’s where we had our first dance. Our first dance was BON JOVI – thank you for loving me. In one of Meg’s romantic moments, she said that the words to that song are the words she wanted to say to Nat after a sometimes tough few years. Everytime it plays, even now, it makes Nat cry like a baby! There weren’t many dry eyes in the house when it was our first dance, until in our usual smooth selves decided to go for a twirl but both tried to twirl each other at the same time and got tangled up!

Will, our Chewton Glen wedding photographer, was an absolute joy to work with. His fun and upbeat personality made the entire photo session an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. He had a wonderful knack for making us laugh and feel comfortable, which really came through in the photos. The shots Will took were nothing short of fantastic. His ability to capture natural, candid moments made our photos look genuine and full of life. We were thrilled with how effortlessly he managed to document the spirit and emotion of our special day.

Linus Moran. Linus, our Hampshire wedding videographer, was absolutely fantastic. From the moment he arrived, he made us feel completely at ease, which was no small feat given the excitement and nerves of the day. His calm and friendly demeanor helped us relax and genuinely enjoy the filming process. He had an incredible eye for detail and made excellent use of the beautiful grounds, ensuring every shot was picturesque. Linus captured all the special moments we wanted and even found creative ways to include unexpected ones that turned out beautifully. His professionalism and talent were evident throughout, and we’re thrilled with how perfectly he captured the essence of our day.

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

We knew that we wanted to do something different and decided to elope, we did not tell our families that we were doing so. We chose the treehouses at Chewton Glen for a small and intimate ceremony. We took photos and items from our families to have with us on the day. After our ceremony, we had afternoon tea, followed by a massage. Our photographer and videographer made us a ‘reveal video’ with a few photos so that we could surprise our families and show them this when we returned.

Chewton Glen
Our wedding day at Chewton Glen Hotel was truly magical, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. The venue is absolutely stunning, with beautiful grounds that provided the perfect backdrop for our special day. From the moment we arrived, we felt a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made it feel like home. Chewton Glen Hotel exceeded our expectations in every way, and we are so grateful for the unforgettable memories they helped create on our wedding day.

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

Jack wore a traditional morning suit, featuring his Grandad’s tie and handkerchief and his Dad’s tie clip.

Abi wore a Justin Alexander fit and flare gown, Abi has this altered to feature off-the-shoulder sleeves and sweetheart neckline detail.

Her attention to detail and dedication ensured that everything ran smoothly (even helping Abi to do the buttons up on the back of her dress)! Georgia and her team were exceptional, providing impeccable service and making sure all our needs were met with a smile.

Makeup, Tara Sanger

Tara, our makeup artist for our wedding day, was wonderful to work with. Tara’s professionalism and skill were evident as she listened carefully to my preferences and provided expert suggestions to enhance my look. I was thrilled with the final result; the makeup was exactly what I had envisioned. It lasted beautifully throughout the day, making me feel confident and radiant. Tara truly contributed to making the preparation time enjoyable and stress-free.

Hair, Abby Blake

Abby, my hairstylist for the wedding day, did an outstanding job. She worked with remarkable precision and speed, ensuring my hair looked perfect in no time. Abby’s expertise and attention to detail were evident in the final result, which was exactly what I had envisioned. Not only did my hair look stunning, but it also held up beautifully throughout the entire day and night. Abby’s efficient and skillful styling made the preparation process smooth and enjoyable, allowing me to feel confident and relaxed as I walked down the aisle.

With extracts and images from a publication by wedding decor specialist Ginger Ray

Based on internet searches, elopements are still really popular with UK couples. I’m thrilled that this ‘trend’ continues: it’s a gorgeous and creative way to begin your marriage with a big adventure!

According to a survey by Ginger Ray:

A third of British couples (32%) highlighted financial reasons for eloping
77% of those planning to elope are opting to tie the knot within the UK, not abroad
Wales ranked as the top choice for a UK elopement

To find out what has motivated this trend, wedding decoration experts at Ginger Ray have conducted a survey of those engaged and in the midst of planning an elopement to see what their special day will look like.

Why are elopements becoming more popular?

More than a third (32%) of respondents said they were opting for an intimate celebration for financial reasons.

Equally (almost!),  31% of couples said they wanted to incorporate adventure and exploration into their I dos! There’s a growing interest in unconventional travel among modern couples, and we think that’s a wonderful thing.

30% of those asked said their desire for intimacy and privacy led them to create a wedding experience tailored to their personal connections.

And quite possibly the best of all answers: 28% of respondents were choosing elopements purely to deviate from customary norms and expectations.

Perhaps most surprisingly, 29% of couples are choosing elopements purely for the aesthetics with couples preferring the type of content that you could take during this sort of wedding. Do it for the ‘gram!

The survey looked specifically at generational differences and found:

  • Gen Z said cost and unique content were most important
  • Millennials were drawn to adventure and travel
  • Gen X prioritised non-traditional ceremonies

Traditionally, eloping conjured up images of couples fleeing to exotic destinations to exchange vows in secret.

Ginger Ray’s survey showed 77% of Brits are getting married in the picturesque landscapes of the UK, rather than venturing abroad.

When it comes to locations for UK elopments, Wales emerged as the top choice, followed closely by the bustling capital of London and then the picturesque landscapes of Scotland.

Northern Ireland and the serene beauty of the Lake District and Cornwall were also really popular destinations.

As for venue preferences, hotels (28%) emerged as the frontrunner, possibly owing to the convenience of hosting both the ceremony and reception under one roof. Town halls closely followed with 27% of couples considering this option, followed in third by the beach, favoured by more outdoorsy and optimistic pairs.

Top five venues for elopements

Hotel 28%
Town hall 27%
Beach 26%
Garden 24%
Registry office 23%

Ginger Ray have created their very own elopement packages with everything they think couples might need to decorate their elopement venue. With rustic and classic styles, there is a theme for every intimate wedding.

Follow your hearts, and let your commitment take a shape that suits the two of you perfectly. Elope in a spectacular location, if that’s the epitome of who you are as a couple!

Today’s blog is magical for its simplicity and romance. Nature provides the magnificent backdrop for gorgeous couple Andrew and Emma’s elopement in Northern Ireland. Images are amazing – they’re by Luke Flint Photography (https://www.lukeflintphotography.co.uk)

“For their Dunseverick castle elopement Andrew and Emma came all the way from Vermont. They have a fierce love and quiet confidence in each other that was so evident while we adventured the coast. These two are the sweetest together as you can see!”

“We started by saying their vows at Dunseverick Castle then made our way to Ballintoy Harbour as dusky light began to make grainy and film like pictures with my camera. I love that light mixed with the energy Andrew and Emma brought with them! What a way to start married life together exploring the beautiful Northern Ireland Coast!” ~ Luke Flint Photography, Northern Ireland

I’d elope. I’ve never shied away from saying this: if I got married right now, I’d elope. Easy. There’s just something wildly romantic about it being just the two of you (plus an amazing celebrant and lovely photographer, obvs) – and escaping into remote nature to say beautiful words – it’s my dream. So today’s glorious feature comes from stunning couple Matthew and Jane, with lovely Hannah Brooke Photography. I hope you’ll adore this as much as I do.“english

Matthew and Jane met 4 years ago whilst Matthew was in his penultimate year at university. Although they both attended the same university, their paths didn’t cross until after Jane had graduated. A chance encounter over university accommodation for a friend of Jane’s was the first time they met. They chatted and realized they had been at the same university for a number of years, had mutual friends, hung out in the same buildings but never once saw each other (Matthew says seeing Jane’s face is something he would have never forgotten!)

Though their meeting was far from conventional, they exchanged numbers, went for a drink to discuss the accommodation….and the rest was history!

They had loads of adventures together, culminating in the biggest adventure of all; when Matthew asked Jane to marry him on New Year’s Eve 2019 at Liverpool Waterfront.

They planned the wedding for November 2020, and we all know what happened in 2020! That said, restrictions were easing by the autumn so they planned to go ahead with just 15 guests and had to scramble to rearrange their wedding in 3 days before the November lockdown started!

Peak District elopement inspiration captured by Hannah Brooke Photography

Since they never got to experience a full wedding, they accepted an unexpected offer from our original decorator @sweetpea_and_ivy to model in their beautiful themed wedding shoot earlier this year. They loved every second of it and decided to embark on this new adventure together where they could showcase the amazing talent of lots of different suppliers in the wonderful wedding industry!

I wonder if 2021 will be the beginning of a surge in elopements… a year when couples put being married before all the frills of a wedding, and tie the knot, just the two of them, in the most romantic and dreamiest of ways. Perhaps this beautiful feature will inspire a few of you lovelies to consider an elopement. (And remember, the big party can always come later!)

The glorious images you’re about to see tell the story of a couple eloping to Paris to marry in the capital city of romance. Our bride’s beautiful Savin London gown is perfect for a statement bridal look on the quaint Parisian streets. Her groom’s dapper Alexandra Wood suit matches perfectly, and the stunning bouquet created by a local florist couldn’t fit the luxe elopement look better!

Paris destination wedding photography inspiration by Amanda Karen Photography

This was all sent in by our lovely friend and destination wedding photographer Amanda Karen Photography, who says, “I could spend hours and hours wandering the streets of Paris, the cafes, stunning doorways and beautiful streets are a photographer’s dream for shooting.”

Of course, you can’t shoot a Paris elopement without catching the Eiffel Tower, but head there early for minimal tourists! There are so many other little spots we passed on this Paris elopement shoot and so many ideas for couple portraits that we just didn’t have time to do!”

Amanda and James (Amanda Karen Photography) have featured on our pages before with beautiful French wedding inspiration, and even published a guide to help you find your perfect French wedding destination. If you’re looking for a photographer to shoot your wedding in France, this talented team should be top of your list!
